GASP welcomes and celebrates students of all backgrounds and ability levels, as we know that having a dynamic and diverse group of students is what makes this school so special. Students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or Section 504 Accommodation Plans (504s) are encouraged to enroll in GASP. The below guide is designed to explain how reasonable accommodations are determined and implemented.

Defining Reasonable Accommodations

A requested accommodation is reasonable if it:

  • maintains a safe learning environment for all participants;

  • does not require alteration to the core curriculum or goals of the program;

  • still enables program staff to perform their core functions;

  • does not create an undue financial burden for the program that could impact operation.

GASP is able to implement many types of common accommodations. If a requested accommodation is determined to be unreasonable, program staff will notify the parent/guardian in writing within 14 days of the request.

Examples of Reasonable Accommodations

Typically Reasonable:

  • Additional time to complete activities

  • Sensory tools or fidgets

  • Manipulatives

  • Graphic organizers

  • Reinforcement systems (e.g. token charts)

  • Visual schedules

  • Enlarged font

  • Peer-assisted activities

  • Use of family provided technological tools (e.g. speech to text)

  • Preferential seating

  • Staff training

Not Typically Reasonable:

  • Providing a fully modified curriculum

  • Dedicated aide staff

  • Dedicated nursing staff

  • Transportation support

    • Note: Families with curb-to-curb transportation will need to opt out of the afternoon pickup on days they have enrolled in GASP.

Note: Accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis, and this guide is designed to provide some typical examples only.
