ABOUT GASP

Our Mission

The Grattan After School Program (GASP) creates a safe, inclusive, and joyful community where every child belongs and has the opportunity to thrive. Through project-based learning, meaningful enrichment, academic support, recreation, and strong relationships, we inspire curiosity, creativity, leadership, and the confidence to explore new possibilities. Together with families and our community, we empower students to become compassionate, resilient, and lifelong learners.

Our Vision

We envision an after-school community where every child has the opportunity to discover their passions, develop meaningful relationships, embrace new challenges, and grow into a confident, compassionate, and engaged member of their community. Through joyful learning, project-based exploration, and inclusive experiences, we strive to inspire the next generation of creative thinkers, lifelong learners, and community leaders.

Our History

The Grattan After School Program (GASP) has been a valued part of the Grattan Elementary School community for more than four decades. Founded by Grattan families in the late 1970s, GASP was created to meet the growing need for high-quality, community-centered after-school care and enrichment. From 1978 to 2002, the program operated under the Haight Ashbury Community Development Corporation before becoming an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Today, GASP continues to be guided by a dedicated Board of Directors composed of current Grattan Elementary School parents and guardians, ensuring the program remains rooted in the needs and values of the community it serves.

GASP is an ExCEL site through SFUSD. ExCEL provides a small amount of grant money as well as trainings, resources and program quality oversight.
